Come again?
Normally I would be against a monopoly. Microsoft is a good example. But a nice byproduct of this trend of one company owning everything comes from my good friends at NBC. It seems that one of their executives decided it would be a good idea to rerun their primetime shows on some of their cable channels. This means that last night, I got to watch the first episode of "30 Rock" (that I missed on account of kinship) on Bravo. And it also means that at this very moment I'm getting to watch "Heroes" (which I missed this week because my partner at work wanted to watch Monday Night Football) on the SciFi channel. Shot - score! Thanks for actually thinking, NBC.

Heroes is a very good show. I'm so proud that you both are embracing your inner geeks lately.
i'm totally diggin' it. what it lacks in some of the actors it makes for in the writing. so intriguing.
You know, they make this great thing called a TiVo that would also rectify this problem for networks that don't own half of the channels available on cable. Even your mother's on board with that technology...
Okay, so you could also use a plain old VCR, but that's not nearly as easy, and also just not as hip.
Plus since normal people don't get Neilsen boxes, the fact that you're recording something on your TiVo also tells the networks that you like a show, so they won't take all the good shows off the air just because the people that do have Neilsen boxes are all watching BBC America and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
This is the same thing that's happening to me that happened with Lost - I have a genuine interest in the friggin' series, but I miss one episode, and now I'm completely lost. To make matters worse, I can't find the OTHER episodes online, because my college network prohibits everything but flowers.com.
I hate TV. Stop vexing me, you foul seductress.
Andrew,
Tivo is surely spectacular, but paying a subscription for that along with having to upgrade our cable to digital just doesn't appeal to me. If they want to replay a show, that's fine, but I'm really not so attached that my life will end if I miss an episode.
